Michelle E. Herron is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but is now excited to be living in and providing BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) services to the Athens community.
After receiving her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 2002, Michelle packed up and moved across the country to San Diego, California where she worked as a special education aide in a private school. She fell in love with her job (and the beach!) and decided to pursue a teaching credential in special education.
Michelle went on to receive her teaching credential in moderate to severe disabilities from San Diego State University in 2005. While teaching in the Chula Vista Elementary School District, her K-2 classrooms were primarily composed of students with a diagnosis of Autism. She loved her work and remained there for 10 years.
In 2009, she received her master’s degree from San Diego State and earned her BCBA certification in January 2013. After the completion of her certificate, Michelle worked part-time for several different companies in San Diego, providing BCBA services.
Michelle has found her passion in helping children and families cope with living and adapting to life with a disability. She is a strong proponent of positive behavior supports, positive reinforcement strategies, school mainstreaming, and community involvement for children with disabilities in order to enhance social skills and long-term, independent functioning.
Michelle is a member of GABA (Georgia Association for Behavior Analysts) and the Council for Exceptional Children.
She offers in-home behavior support, parent trainings, and school advocacy. She prefers a team approach when treating her clients by including parents, siblings, school personnel, and other service providers when appropriate.
In her spare time Michelle enjoys running, yoga, watching football, camping, hiking, spending time with her husband and finding new activities for her very active son!
