Taylor EvansDr. Taylor Evans relocated to the Athens area in 2013, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Disability Studies and Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University and a PhD from the University of Tennessee. Taylor was a licensed social worker in the state of Ohio, and is fully licensed as an LCSW in the state of Georgia.

Taylor has worked with children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities for over ten years as a teaching assistant, classroom aide, tutor, social skills coach, and behavior therapist. Her experience also includes family and parent support groups with emphasis on education, managing stress, and developing coping strategies. Taylor has experience using modified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction techniques, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Feminist Narrative Therapy with individuals, couples, and families to treat anxiety (including OCD), depression and enhance communication. Taylor is particularly skilled in modifying therapeutic techniques for women and those with autism spectrum disorders.

Through her scholarship and clinical experience, Taylor has learned a great deal about the needs of individuals and families affected by disabilities, stress, and anxiety and the evidence based interventions that are most useful in treating symptoms. Taylor seeks to create a positive and balanced life for individuals and families experiencing negative and/or intrusive thoughts and behaviors. She regularly offers mindfulness meditation workshops for adults and social/life skills building groups for adolescents and adults.

Taylor is an active consumer of current research and contributing member to the knowledge base within Social Work and Disability. She has presented at many professional conferences and published several articles in peer reviewed journals. She is a member of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed, the Society for Social Work and Research, the Council on Social Work Education, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Autism Society of America.

Taylor enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, gardening, cooking, and reading.
